The CyberSports Tournament Module tracks,
compiles, and compares the
statistics for all the
participating teams and individual players during tournament play. It will even create
tournament brackets for 4 to 32 teams.
Because of the short time allowed between games, we highly recommend that you
use two computers. One computer, located courtside, to enter the
game data, and a second computer to be used to print game reports
and compile tournament statistics. The second computer needs a
printer and does not necessarily have to be located in the gym.
This will require three people. Two (statistician and spotter) for the courtside computer and one person for compiling and printing.
Note: If you are going to webcast, the courtside computer
will need to have a modem with an Internet connection (phone
line). It is a very good idea to test your Internet connection
prior to the start of the tournament.
Pre-Tournament Preparation
- Install your CyberSports software on both computers.
- Print a Courtside Guide from our website
www.cybersportsUSA.com
for reference and statistician training.
- The CyberSports Game Module contains an extensive
online Help Utility. Just click Help on the main menu bar as needed.
Statisticians can also review the official rules and guidelines
using the Help utility.
Use the Tournament Module to set up a tournament file.
- Open the Tournament Module.
- On the main menu bar, click File and then select the
New option, or just click on the blank sheet of paper icon.
- Enter tournament information (name, dates, and location).
- Enter the sites and dates of the tournament.
- Create and/or load team files (player rosters) for the participating
teams. Enter a team’s roster even though it may not be
accurate. On game day, it is much easier to edit a team’s
roster than to create a new one.
- For participating teams that already use CyberSports for
basketball, just obtain a copy of their team (.BBT) file. This will save a lot of time and
effort. CyberSports files are fairly small and can be easily
e-mailed.
Caution: Create and use only one team
(.BBT) file for each participating team.
Use the Team Edit to add players, change numbers, make a player
inactive, etc. Any time a change is made to the team’s roster
save and replace the current team file.
- To make adjustments to tournament bracket, select Edit then Pairings.
- Save the tournament file. Example: "HolidayG_01.bbn" (Holiday Girls 2001 tournament).
- Optional: Print out copy of tournament bracket.
Setting Up First Round Game Files
Since the first round pairings are known, use the game module to set up game files in advance. On the main menu bar click File and then Preferences. Make sure of the following:
- The correct game format is selected.
- Click the Other tab and select the "Full Auto Save"
option.
- Click OK when finished. Note: you only need to set the preference options one time.
Next click the PreGame command on the main menu and select the Setup option to enter game information.
- Click the Team tabs and load from file the participating
team rosters.
- Click the Officials tab and add all of the names of the
tournament game officials. Note: Once the officials’ names have been entered,
just select and load the desired officials names for each ensuing game.
- On the main menu bar, click File and then the Save option to save the game file. Use game file names such as "G1sea_bos.bbg"
(Game #1, Seattle vs. Boston).
- Repeat the game setup process for the remainder of the first round games.

Courtside Computer
Pregame Set Up
If the game files have been set up in advance,
click File then Open and select the desired game file.
Skip steps
1 through 5.
- In the game module, click on File then Preferences to make sure
that the desired game format is selected. Also, click the Other tab and select the "Full
Auto Save" option.
- Click PreGame then Setup and enter game
information.
- Click the Team tabs and load from file the
participating team rosters.
- Click the Officials tab and load the game
officials.
- Click File then Save as and save the game
file. Use file names such as "G1sea_bos.bbg" (Game #1,
Seattle vs. Boston).
Caution: Be sure to save the game file in the CyberSports for basketball folder
on the hard drive.
- Select File then Print to print out a team
roster for both teams.
Important: Give
rosters to coaches and have them check their starting lineup along
with making any changes or corrections to the roster.
- In the PreGame Setup select the Teams tab
and click Edit to
make any roster changes if necessary (add player, make a player
inactive or active, change player’s number, etc).
Caution: Always use the Add
New button when adding players to a team
roster. Do not ever change an existing player’s name except for
spelling.
Important: If/when any
changes are made to a team’s roster, be sure to update (save
& replace) the existing team file.
- Optional. Use File/Print to print out
a Game Program report for general distribution.
Optional Webcasting
Add fun and excitement to your your tournament by webcasting all the games.
WebCasting will not only increase tournament interest but will also create an instant source for game results including a detailed, printable box score. Webcasts results will remain on the Internet for post-game viewing for the entire season.
Webcasts can be viewed on the CyberSportsUSA.com website and linked to your own websites if desired.
- Establish your Internet connection.
- On the main menu bar, select WebCast/Start Webcast
- Click the Start button. Be sure to start webcasting 10-20 minutes prior to start of game in order that
anxious viewers can click onto webcast.
During the Game
Print out a copies of the CyberSports' "Courtside Statistician Guide" for review and reference. A couple of reminders:
- Be alert for substitutions that may occur
during time outs. When multiple player substitutions are made,
just click all of the players out of the game, and then reenter
the players on the court.
- To edit game action, such as changing a three
point shot to a two point shot, just click on the event in the
Action List. In the action editor make the desired change and
then click ok.
- Try not to add time to the clock. Stop the
clock, and allow the game clock to catch up with the time on the
computer.
- Do not click the "Start New Period"
button until all of the statistics from the previous period have
been entered.
- Missed the number for a player on a shot or
made a basket? Just click on the team name button. Once the
player's identity can be established, at your convenience, use
the action editor to make the correction.
CAUTION: Always
save to hard disk. Do NOT ever use the floppy drive for saving during the game.
Half Time
- Select File then Print to print out and
distribute to the teams and media the Box Score and Leaders reports.
- On the main menu bar click on During Game then select Switch Sides to change ends of the court.
- If webcasting, check your Internet connection.
- Enter second half starters.
Post Game
- After making sure all stats have been entered,
click the Start New Period button below the clock to add
an End of Game marker to the game file
- Use File/Save to save the game (.BBG) file.
- If webcasting, wait two minutes to make sure
final game file get exported and click the Webcast/Stop
button.
- Using Windows Explorer, copy the final game (.BBG)
file to a floppy disk for use on second computer.
Select File/Open and to open the game
file for the next game.

Computer II: Compiling and Printing
Post Game Printing of Game Reports
- Using the game module open the game file. Click the
File command, select Preferences and select the
Reports tab. Check the reports that you want to be include in your
media reports printing.
CAUTION: Do not
use the "System" font for printing. To check font: Click
File/Preferences choose the Reports tab and then click on Font Selection. We
recommend using "Arial" or "Times New Roman"
size 10 or 12 normal.
- Click File and choose the Print option to access
the game reports print menu.
- Select and print out desired reports.
- Distribute to media, and team coaches.
- Optional: Post for players and spectator viewing.
Compiling of Tournament Statistics
Copy or move the game file from the floppy disk into the Cybersports for basketball folder on
the hard disk.
- Using the Tournament Module, open the tournament file.
- Click on the basketball with question mark icon, and load the game
file into the tournament file.
- Click on the diskette icon and update (save and replace) the
current tournament file.
- Select and print out desired tournament reports: Team Leaders
(total), Individual Leaders (totals), and Bracket (optional).
- Distribute to teams, media and post for viewing.
- If/when time permits print other reports as needed or requested.
Note: Be sure to provide the all-tournament selection
committee copies of the individual tournament leaders report.
POST-TOURNAMENT
- Use Windows Explorer to copy all of the game (.BBG) files and
tournament (.BBN) file onto a floppy disk for archiving.
- Use the Tournament Module to print out the final tournament
bracket, team leaders report and individual leaders report. Send
the reports, along with the floppy disk that containing all of the
game and tournament files to participating teams.
Optional: Use Windows/Disk Copy to make copies of the floppy disk containing the game and
tournament files. Distribute the copies to all of the participating
teams that use CyberSports so that they can update their season
files.
